Student Testimonials
"
"My co-founder and I are both graduate students at UTMB. Jacqueline is in the Pharmacology & Toxicology Department, and I am in the Human Pathophysiology Program and the Center for Addiction Research. Our idea evolved as we both have personal stories related to the detrimental effects of opioid overdoses. We entered a few Ideas Competitions from Blackstone LaunchPad and have won 2 years in a row. To develop the idea, we began working with community partners and the leadership of the Blackstone LaunchPad program at UTMB including Dr. Massoud Motamedi, Dr. Dan Jupiter, and Lanette Harris were all important in our journey as entrepreneurs and success so far."

"
"Being a biologist by trade, I never had any exposure to entrepreneurship. I couldn’t fathom the idea about founding a tech startup. Blackstone LaunchPad changed my entire perspective and propelled me forward towards my dream. The BLP fellowship not only exposed me to the process of launching a startup and expand my network but also helped me to validate my startup idea and build it."
Naiju Thomas
"
"I joined the BLP team because I see the science and health career landscapes changing rapidly and I want to encourage others to explore the new possibilities in this field. While academic research is fascinating, I see myself moving towards a more community-oriented career. Though graduate school doesn’t leave one with much free time! I look forward to serving with the BLP Texas Network to help bring the entrepreneurial mindset to my fellow students."

“As a leading academic health care center, we need to strengthen our education and training programs to encourage our students to pursue entrepreneurship, innovation and business creation by giving them the knowledge and tools needed to enable them to advance their ideas and discoveries throughout a combination of their educational and entrepreneurial mindsets, unleashing their creativity,” Motamedi said. “The summer camp provides the opportunity for students to learn about how they can equip themselves with the tools that are needed to be successful in their entrepreneurship journey.”
